Writing for All: Assessment and Instruction for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (New!)
Students with intellectual disabilities have important ideas to share - and they deserve writing instruction that makes that possible. This dynamic, practice-oriented training explores how to evaluate writing skills in students with intellectual disabilities, and how to translate assessment data into practical, evidence-based instruction. Participants will examine the essential components of writing, from transcription to text generation, and learn how to design explicit, structured supports that promote growth and independence. We will also explore how educators and service providers can align assessment insights and instructional strategies across settings so students experience consistent, meaningful support. Emphasis will be placed on high expectations, access to rich literacy experiences, and practical strategies that promote independence and authentic written expression.
