A Message from the Director
Welcome and thank you for visiting Diagnostic Center Northern California’s website.
The Diagnostic Center, Northern California (DCN) is one of three regional assessment centers operated through the State Special Schools and Services Division of the California Department of Education. The diagnostic centers were established over 60 years ago, initially to provide services to students with cerebral palsy. In 1955, the scope was broadened to include children with other neurological handicaps. The two other centers are in Fresno and Los Angeles.
DCN provides assessment services to over 500 local educational agencies (school districts, County and SELPA programs) within 35 Northern California counties. Our assessment services are provided by expert, diagnostic professionals who work in transdisciplinary teams to address the unique needs of Northern California’s students with complex learning and behavior profiles.
In addition to student assessments, DCN provides training, consultation, and technical assistance services to schools within our geographic region. All Diagnostic Center services are provided at no charge to local educational agencies and families.
Our staff is committed to providing quality services that make a positive difference for students, their families, and educators. Please visit our website frequently as we will be regularly updating our website with upcoming professional development opportunities and resources.
