Once Upon a Voice: Building Language and Literacy through Shared Reading & Alternative and Augmentative Communication
In this training, participants will 1) Identify key components of shared reading that support language and literacy and Explore strategies for modeling Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) during reading interactions.
Early literacy builds the foundation for future academic success, and for children who use AAC, shared reading is a powerful, inclusive strategy to support this growth. This session explores how intentional shared reading can promote language development in preschoolers with complex communication needs. Learn how to model AAC during interactive reading, use visual supports to boost engagement and comprehension, and design universally accessible story time routines that benefit all learners.
